Anti ageing

Skin, the largest organ of the body, is the most visible indicator of the ageing process. Skin ageing is a complex biological process influenced by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors.

Intrinsic or chronological ageing starts around the 40s-60s and occurs due to ethnic factors, genetic predisposition, anatomical variation, and hormonal factors (estrogen, melatonin, Vit D), leading to smooth, thin, fine-wrinkled skin with some pigmentation.

Extrinsic or photoageing is caused by the superimposition of chronic sun damage on intrinsically aged skin. Extrinsic factors include exposure to sunlight (including visible and infrared light), pollution, temperature, smoking, alcoholism, drugs, poor nutrition, and sleep. It starts as early as the late teens and eventually results in thick skin with deep wrinkles, furrows, and marked pigmentation.

Management of Ageing Skin Includes

● Avoiding Risk Factors by:
  • Eating lots of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables
  • Regular exercise and adequate sleep
  • Avoiding strong sun and wind
  • Regular use of sunscreens and moisturizers to prevent dry skin
  • Avoid smoking, alcohol, and stress
● Medical Treatment Includes Application of:
  • Retinoids, superficial chemical peels (AHAs and BHAs)
  • Topical antioxidants (Vitamins B, C, E), lightening agents such as kojic acid, arbutin, azelaic acid, and liquorice extract
  • Hyaluronic acid, glutathione, growth factors, and peptides
  • HIFU and Profhilo
● Minimal Surgical Interventions such as:
  • Microdermabrasion, non-ablative lasers (CO2, ND-YAG), non-ablative RF tightening and MNRF
  • Chemical peels
  • Botulinum toxin injections, filler treatment, thread lifts
  • Liposuction and lipolysis
